| Customer Reviews: Solid shift knob April 22, 2010 Mike Butschli (Blaine, WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this to replace my stock shift knob on my Altima. The installation was fairly simple and the knob works as expected.
Nice look, needs support July 6, 2010 J. Olson (USA) This knob has a great look, works well, and feels just right. It needs more support than the setscrews that come with it. They work gradually loose and then rattle. I used some sealant inside and then set the screws and it's fine.
Poor Quality & a Potential Safety Risk! August 7, 2010 Darrell M (USA) What can I say, you get what you pay for. I received the package it excellent shape. After opening the package & getting a good look at the shifter knob I noticed the leather had what appeared to be wear marks or at least really shoddy craftsmanship where the black outer coloring was missing, much like the stock leather shifter I was replacing after 8 years of use. The carbon fiber does not look authentic when compared to my carbon fiber hood & panels, though for the price I didn't expect much. Well I decided I'd look past the wear marks & install it considering the knob was only going to be temporary replacement while I waited for a custom knob on backorder. Well installation was a piece of cake considering it only uses three Allen bolts to secure the knob in place. That where the problems really start which lead me to return the product, thankfully at Amazon's expense. The three Allen bolt are not enough to secure the knob to the shifter shaft. After only a few minutes of use the knob became loose allowing it to wobble & spin on the shifter. While not directly a safety issue I found it quite unnerving to have the shifter spin & wobble while attempting to shift. I attempted to secure the screw multiple times with no luck. The knobs opening is much larger than the threaded shaft on my vehicle so short of making a sleeve or wedges it just wasn't going to work for me. While other reviews mention you can get it to work by other means, I feel you shouldn't have to go the extra mile to secure a product that should work straight out of the box to begin with, but maybe that's just me.
